In 2014 the Mira Theatre Guild created the Black Box Theatre, a smaller performing space, outside of the main stage. Tina Arriola, an alumni of San Francisco’s acclaimed ACT, was brought in as a consultant for the newly formed space and immediately formed the Black Box Radio Stars and produced and directed the inaugural play “The Maltese Falcon” which was performed as a traditional stage reading,
From 2015 until current, Black Box Radio Stars (BBRS) has consistently performed to sellout crowds featuring favorites such as “Pulp Fiction”, and “Dracula” along with standards like The Bishops Wife, Miracle on 34th Street, and “All About Eve”. In 2025, to celebrate 10 years of Black Box Theatre, Ms. Arriola created an original screenplay titled “The Falcon Dialed the Wrong Number” incorporating many elements from 10 years of radio shows.
Black Box Theatre has never been considered a true traditional production house. All shows are conducted as if you were at home listening to a radio show with voice projection and sound effects while incorporating local themes. Audience participation is not only welcome but also expected! To add to the atmosphere, BBRS introduced cabaret seating providing audience members an up close and personal experience that includes a light meal themed around the show. To date, BBRS is the only known theatre house to provide dinner theatre.
